Fox's hit TV show Empire is growing in popularity each week. The Hip Hop-oriented series increased its viewership according to Variety. On behalf of last week's episode raking in 13.9 million viewers, Fox estimates that the show has been watched by 22.6 million viewers since it premiered in early January.

After its fifth episode, Empire broke a television record that stood for nearly two decades, as it became the first primetime scripted series to grow in total viewers over each of its first five telecasts since at least 1991. More-and-more women, between the ages of 18-34, are watching the show. The series saw a 68% increase in female viewership since its premiere.

African-Americans make up about two-thirds of the population tuning in – age 2 and older. Among other primetime series across the networks, Empire joins ABC's Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder as broadcast dramas with more than 4 in 10 viewers are black.

On social media, the show is also getting a huge boost. Empire has ousted Scandal as the TV show with the highest average number of tweets per episode with 381,770.
